Today: the big day! BT broadband has been down for 5 weeks, getting an appointment with a BT engineer to visit exceptionally hard, but – this morning he’s coming! My instructions were to be available to let him in between 08.00 – 13.00. This is the earliest appointment that was possible.
At 10.25 the call came from BT in India: the engineer wasn’t coming. He’ll visit next Monday afternoon.
The Indian staff are very polite, and clearly well-trained to deal with very pissed BT customers – of whom it seems there are many.
BT: We’re very sorry.
RF: Look, I know it’s not your fault, but sorry doesn’t do it. Can I have confidence that the engineer will actually arrive next Monday?
That’s an unanswerable question.
